Free shuttle bus at Gausta
Make your stay at Gausta easier with our free shuttle. The bus runs continuously between fixed stops in the cabin areas, the village centre and the ski resort, and can be tracked via the live map.

Travel to Gausta

From Oslo, the drive takes around 2.5 hours. If you’re travelling from Stavanger or Bergen, allow approximately 6 hours by car. From Haugesund, the journey takes about 5 hours, while from Kristiansand it’s roughly 4.5 hours. Gausta is also easily accessible from Sweden – from Gothenburg, the drive is approximately 5.5 hours.
Note: County Road 3430 (Fv. 3430) between Gausta and Tuddal is closed during winter. Closing and reopening dates typically vary between October and May. Check www.vegvesen.no for the latest updates before you travel.

If you’d like to travel to Gausta by bus, there are express coaches to Rjukan every day from Oslo, with a transfer in Notodden. It’s also possible to take the train to Notodden and change to a bus from there. For the final stretch up the mountain, you can take the Fjellbussen (Mountain Bus) during selected periods, or take a taxi.

The nearest international airport is Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, located about 225 km from Gausta. From here, you can rent a car (approx. 3.5 hours) or travel by bus. There are buses from the airport to Rjukan several times daily (with transfers in Oslo and Notodden). Sandefjord Airport, Torp is around 180 km away. From here, you can travel to Rjukan by train and bus every day (several transfers).

Gausta is easily accessible for motorcyclists, whether you’re passing through or planning a stay in the area. The roads up to Gausta offer beautiful natural scenery along the way. At the destination, facilities are in place for motorcycles, including dedicated parking, wash facilities, and accommodation options. This makes it easy to include Gausta as a stop on your journey.
