Ski touring
Welcome to ski touring at Gausta, where the adventure begins and nature leads you to unforgettable experiences. Explore multiple areas with varied challenges suitable for you and your friends. From the majestic Gaustatoppen to the iconic Gausta mountains, there's an adventure for every taste and skill level.
Gaustatoppen
Explore Gaustatoppen, Norway's iconic mountain peak, majestically towering 1883 meters above sea level. With several lines to choose from, there's something for different skill levels.
When planning your trip, be mindful of the weather conditions. Gaustatoppen requires good weather and clear conditions. Weather conditions can vary dramatically from the base to the summit, with snow melting and freezing depending on the sun and wind. The best conditions are usually found on clear, calm days, when the sun has had time to warm up the mountain. However, remember that areas that were sunny in the morning may freeze when the shadow from Gaustatoppen covers them.
It's not just Gaustatoppen that offers fantastic opportunities for summit hikes. The iconic Gausta mountains, sheltered from weather and wind, offer varied routes suitable for various skill levels. With several routes to choose from, such as Torekyrkja or Fyriegg, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a memorable adventure!
During winter, crossing Kvitåvatn on ice is easily accessible, allowing you to choose a route tailored to your skill level. As spring approaches, the ice begins to melt, and the easiest access is via Fjellheisen or the Fyriegg cabin area, or through the Svartdalsløypa (cross-country skiing trail).

Practical info
No matter which area you choose, you are deep in nature and must be prepared for weather changes and potential accidents. Water, high-energy food, extra clothing, sunscreen, first aid supplies, and a windproof sack should always be in your backpack. And don't forget the blister plaster (compeed) – it can be invaluable.
Always be aware of weather forecasts and avalanche danger before embarking on your journey. YR.no and the Varsom app are invaluable tools providing accurate information about weather conditions, wind, temperature, and avalanche danger, allowing you to plan your trip in the safest way possible.
Rent equipement
When ski touring, it's important to have the right equipment and be familiar with how to use it. Make sure to bring gear such as an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel, and be aware of how to navigate safely in avalanche terrain.
At Gausta ski rental, you can easily rent ski touring equipment, skins, boots, and adjustable poles, ensuring you are well-prepared for the adventure ahead.
