How Does Gausta Ensure a Snow-Sure Winter Destination?

Over the past few years, Gausta Ski Resort has invested more than NOK 100 million in a state-of-the-art snowmaking system. This investment ensures high-quality skiing conditions from the start of the season to the very end, regardless of how the winter develops. Of our 44 slopes, 29 are covered by snowmaking, allowing us to maintain excellent conditions across both slopes and lifts, even during periods of mild weather.

As winters become warmer and more unpredictable, snowmaking has become essential for ski resorts. At Gausta, however, it is about more than just technology – it is also about experience and expertise. With 250 fully automated snow guns and eight powerful pumps, we continuously monitor weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, and wind to ensure optimal snow quality and placement.

Through our SnowSat GPS system, integrated into all grooming machines, we have complete visibility of snow depth across the resort. This allows us to identify exactly where additional snow is needed and where production can be optimised. The result is more consistent slopes, more efficient use of resources, and a smarter snowmaking operation that benefits both the environment and our guests.

How Does Gausta Work with Sustainable and Innovative Snowmaking?

At Gausta, sustainability and efficiency are key priorities. Our advanced snowmaking system is designed to use resources such as water and electricity as responsibly and efficiently as possible. Through real-time monitoring, we maintain the optimal snow depth on every slope, while the entire system can be managed from an iPad – a combination of technology and precision that places us among the industry's leaders.

Under ideal conditions, we can produce up to 55,000 cubic metres of snow.

Snowmaking is energy-intensive, which is why we place great emphasis on operating the system as efficiently as possible. Temperature, humidity, wind conditions, and water supply from the mountain reservoir must remain stable over time to ensure that snow production can be carried out effectively and responsibly.

Our specially developed snow mix is designed to withstand mild weather without melting quickly and to resist turning icy when temperatures drop. Snow quality is one of Gausta’s most distinctive advantages – and naturally, the recipe remains a closely guarded secret.
