Join the knowledgeable and passionate guide Merethe Falkum Lien on a very special summit hike to Gaustatoppen and into the mountain’s secret rooms and facilities. This is not the usual way to the summit – Merethe takes you on a lesser-known, but very scenic route from the bottom station. We estimate that it will take us about 2.5–3 hours to reach the summit on foot, with several stops along the way.Once at Tuddalstippen, an exclusive tour inside the secret mountain awaits, as this is the entrance to the facility for the Gaustabanen cable car. There are several rooms at the top of the cable car that carry a fascinating story about a secret military facility deep inside Gaustatoppen. After a tour of the secret rooms, we gather for a two-course dinner served in the Defence Apartment. The evening is rounded off with a glass in hand on the helideck, with magnificent views and – if the weather cooperates – the sunset from the roof of Telemark. The tour ends with a trip down the Gaustabanen cable car and a shuttle back to the hotel.
Start your day with a refreshing mountain hike and a breakfast you won't soon forget, served on a picnic blanket with a panoramic view of all of Telemark! The hike starts with a shuttle from Gaustablikk Fjellresort to Vatnedalen, and from there the hike goes up to Ørnenipa, a spectacular viewpoint at 1333 masl. From Ørnenipa you have views of Gaustatoppen, Rjukan, Vestfjorddalen, Austbygde, Blefjell, Tinnsjøen, and even Jonsknuten in Kongsberg on clear days. The hike goes through easy forest terrain and has a steady and nice climb until the last 150 meters, when you have also crossed the tree line and the trail becomes somewhat steeper and more rocky. The trail can be demanding in some places, so sturdy hiking shoes with good ankle support are recommended. At the top we enjoy a picnic breakfast provided by Bakeriet, served on a picnic blanket. This is a nature experience for those who are fresh in the morning and want to start the day with a good hiking companion. After breakfast we take a slightly different route back, where we walk along Langetjønn and through the forest all the way down to the hotel.
Experience the perfect blend of padel matches and breathtaking views of Gaustatoppen on Northern Europe's highest-altitude padel court.Equipment and keys for the courts are collected in the reception at Gaustablikk Fjellresort.
At Gaustablikk Fjellresort, we believe that fun and socializing are just as important as the breathtaking natural surroundings. Shuffleboard is a social game suitable for all ages and skill levels. Here, you can challenge a friend to a one-on-one showdown or form teams and compete together – the choice is yours!
Boule is a fun game which is easy to learn, and suitable for all age groups. Play 1 on 1 or divide into teams. Two courts are located in front of Gaustablikk Fjellresort.Boule set is picked up in the reception at Gaustablikk Fjellresort.
Join us on a guided day trip through one of the most atmospheric and historical hiking trails in the area! The hike starts at Bygget and goes via Svineroi seter and further on the north side of Gaustatoppen, along the old Kjerringsveivløypa trail, to Selstali seter. This is a unique opportunity to experience beautiful high mountain nature, local history and living farm culture in collaboration with Tinn og Rjukan Turlag and hiker Stein Olav Kivle.Along the way you will get:- Historical hike in an old cultural landscape- Visit the traditional Selstali Seter, which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site- Authentic seter cuisine for lunch: cured meats, rye porridge and flatbread- Several volunteer hiker assistants from the hiker team will also help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants- Shuttle bus takes us back to Bygget/Gausta after lunch
